Bugalugs: the complete brand guide – which range is for what

Bugalugs: коя серия е за какво

Short answer: Bugalugs is a British family-run pet care brand for dogs and cats, founded in 2020, which makes almost all of its products in its own factory in the Lake District in England. The range is split by need – shampoos and conditioners, no-rinse care, detangling, scents, the probiotic range, antiseptics, skin folds, paws and nose, ears and eyes, teeth, oils and supplements, cats and gift sets. Choose the range by the problem you want to solve, and only then pick the scent.

Who Bugalugs is

The brand started with a single shampoo – Baby Fresh, which is still one of its best-loved scents. The products are made with water from the Lake District, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bugalugs does not test its products on animals, most of the grooming range is vegan, and the formulas are pH-balanced and paraben-free. Today the brand is sold in the UK, the USA and a number of international markets.

groom.bg is the exclusive distributor of Bugalugs for Bulgaria, with more than 150 of the brand’s products in the shop. They are all in the Bugalugs collection, and below the ranges are presented briefly – with one or two examples each and a link to a detailed guide where there is one.

Bath and coat

Shampoos and conditioners

The heart of the brand is its dog shampoos, each for a specific need: All-in-1 with wild lemongrass for everyday care, Medi Fresh with tea tree and oatmeal and Bugalugs Oatmeal Dog Shampoo with colloidal oatmeal for dry and sensitive skin, Maxi White for white and light coats, Stinky Dog for strong odours, 4-in-1 Lavender & Chamomile for a calm bath and Flea & Tick with neem oil. The shampoos are ready to use, and if you wish, All-in-1, Oatmeal, Maxi White and Stinky Dog can be diluted up to 10:1, and Baby Fresh up to 20:1. The main scents also have matching conditioners. If you are not sure where to start, answer a few questions in the shampoo finder. The shampoos and conditioners are in the Bugalugs Shampoos and Conditioners collection.

No-rinse care

No-rinse foams clean and freshen when a bath isn’t possible – after a walk, while travelling or for dogs that dislike water. Bugalugs Baby Fresh no-rinse foam shampoo is a versatile option, and the range also includes foams with oatmeal, with lavender and chamomile, with papaya and coconut, Medi Fresh, as well as the Baby Fresh dry shampoo spray.

Detangling

Detangling sprays go onto a dry or wet coat and help the brush glide through knots. Bugalugs 2 in 1 Detangler & Leave in Conditioner with Raspberry & Lemon also works as a leave-in conditioner, and the range also offers Baby Fresh, One in a Million, Tangle Tame and an unscented Fragrance Free spray for dogs you’d rather not leave any perfume on. The Detangling Foam Comb products combine the product and the tool in one.

Colognes and deodorising sprays

Colognes freshen the coat between baths – from the designer-style Bugalugs One in a Million Dog Cologne to the fruity Zingy, Aloe & Kiwi and Pineapple & Passionfruit. Deodorising sprays such as Stinky Dog and Wild Lemongrass neutralise odour rather than just masking it. Spray lightly onto a dry coat and away from the face.

The Pre, Post + Probiotic range

This is the brand’s newest range, designed to support the skin’s natural balance (the microbiome) every time you clean. It contains prebiotics, postbiotics and natural ingredients such as oats, pumpkin, aloe vera and linseed. For dogs there is a no-rinse shampoo, Bugalugs Probiotic Itchy Skin Spray for Dogs for irritated skin, a detangling spray, a paw foam, a balm stick, and an ear cleaner and ear wipes, and most products also have a cat version. This is gentle supportive care, not treatment: research on topical probiotics is still limited, but the first results are promising.

Health and hygiene

Antiseptic range

The sprays in the antiseptic range are based on hypochlorous acid and are alcohol-free. Bugalugs Antiseptic First Aid Spray is the all-round choice for the home first-aid kit for scratches and bites; the range also includes sprays for wounds and skin, hot spots, itchy skin, nose and paws, and flea and tick bites, as well as eye and ear drops and a dental spray. Alongside them are Styptic Powder to stop minor bleeding and the aloe vera gel. With a deep wound, pus or a fever, home care is not enough – see a vet.

Skin folds (Wrinkle)

The Wrinkle range is made for bulldogs, pugs, Shar Peis and other dogs with folds where moisture and dirt collect: a hypoallergenic shampoo, a chlorhexidine foam and spray, cleansing pads and wipes, a moisturising cream and Bugalugs Wrinkle Balm Stick with colloidal oatmeal, almond and coconut oils, which forms a protective barrier against moisture and friction.

Paws and nose

Bugalugs Nose & Paw Balm is a 100% natural vegan balm for dry and cracked pads and noses; it also comes as a stick. For a quick clean after a walk there are paw foams with a built-in brush, and for upkeep at home the Bugalugs nail clippers in two sizes.

Ears and eyes

Bugalugs Soothing Ear Cleaner Solution for Dogs is an alcohol-free solution with witch hazel and aloe vera for regular ear cleaning; there are also ear wipes and a probiotic version. For the area around the eyes there are the Tear Stain solution and pads. If the ear smells, has discharge or is painful, don’t clean it yourself – get a check-up first.

Teeth

The dental range covers every level of patience: a mint toothpaste gel and a liver-flavoured enzymatic toothpaste for brushing, triple-headed brushes and finger brushes, and for pets that won’t accept a brush – foam, spray, wipes, a water additive and a seaweed powder. Bugalugs Dental Starter Kit brings the main products together in one kit and is a good start if you don’t know what your pet will accept.

You can also add chewing to brushing: Bugalugs Dental Sticks are dental sticks with chicken and Irish seaweed, and Bugalugs Himalayan cheese chews – handmade from air-dried cow’s milk – last a long time and come in three sizes, as well as crunchy Popcorn Bites. You will find more about them in our guide to chew treats.

Oils and supplements

The oils are added to food: Bugalugs Scottish Salmon Oil from Scottish salmon, Premium Arctic Cod Liver Oil from Arctic cod liver, Flaxseed Oil as a vegan alternative for pets that don’t tolerate fish, and Organic Hemp Oil. There is also the Calming Powder supplement. Dose according to the label and discuss with your vet which supplement is suitable, especially if your pet takes medication or has a chronic condition.

For digestion there is also Bugalugs Pre & Probiotic Digestive Paste for dogs and cats – with friendly Enterococcus faecium bacteria, a prebiotic (oligofructose) and kaolin, handy for sudden loose stools, stress, a change of diet or after antibiotics – and Bugalugs Probiotic Pellets for dogs with Bacillus subtilis and psyllium fibre for everyday gut support. If the upset is severe or lasts, see your vet first.

For cats

The cat line includes a luxury 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner, a flea and tick shampoo with neem, no-rinse shampoos, the Blueberry Spa facial foam, an ear cleaner and ear wipes, a cologne and probiotic products for cats. On a cat, use only products labelled for cats or for dogs and cats. The whole line is in the Bugalugs Products for Cats collection.

Gift sets

Ready-made sets in a gift box are handy for a new owner or as a present: Bugalugs Essentials Gift Set with a detangling spray, ear cleaner and tear stain remover; Baby Fresh Gift Set with a shampoo, detangling spray and cologne in the baby powder scent; One in a Million Set with a shampoo, detangling spray and cologne; Ultimate Set with Papaya & Coconut shampoo, One in a Million cologne, Baby Fresh dry shampoo, ear cleaner and tear stain remover; and the shampoo sets 3 × 250 ml and 4 × 500 ml. They are all in the Bugalugs Gift Sets collection. In autumn and winter they are joined by the limited seasonal scents – Pumpkin Latte and the Christmas Gingerbread and Roasted Chestnut & Cinnamon.

Guides by topic

Suitable products

For a first Bugalugs order, three things are usually enough: a shampoo matched to the skin and coat, a detangling spray and a no-rinse product for the days between baths. The scents, sprays and no-rinse foams are in the Bugalugs Scents and No-Rinse Care collection.

Frequently asked questions

Is Bugalugs vegan, and is it tested on animals?

Bugalugs does not test its products on animals, and most of the grooming range – shampoos, conditioners, colognes, sprays, foams, wipes and antiseptics – is vegan. Salmon and cod liver oils are by nature not vegan; flaxseed oil is the alternative.

Can a Bugalugs dog product be used on a cat?

Only if the label says it is for dogs and cats. Some dog products, for example the flea and tick mousse, contain essential oils that are not suitable for cats. There is a separate line for cats.

Does the shampoo need to be diluted?

Not necessarily: Bugalugs shampoos are ready to use, and most can be diluted up to 10:1 (Baby Fresh up to 20:1). For products with no published ratio, follow the instructions on the label. Diluted shampoo spreads more evenly and rinses out more easily.

Can I combine products from different ranges?

Yes. The ranges do different jobs and are not closed systems – a shampoo for sensitive skin can easily be combined with a detangling spray or a cologne from another range.
