Short answer: Hydra has three main lines – Hydra Collection William Galharde, Hydra Vegan and Hydra Pet Spa Senses – and almost everything in them is a concentrate diluted 1:4 or 1:10. For each of them we carry a product that does the same job: for all-round care with shine – a shampoo and conditioner from Groom Professional; for deep cleaning – a clarifying shampoo from iGroom; for vegan formulas – the Bugalugs concentrates; for a calming bath – a shampoo from Groom Professional and a ready-to-use conditioner from Bugalugs. Below you'll find what each line is for and which of our products does the same job.
Our alternatives at a glance
If you are looking for a product with the same purpose from the brands we carry, here is our pick by need – the details and the price-per-litre comparison follow below.
- All-round care with shine (like William Galharde) – the Groom Professional Cherry Sparkle shampoo and the Groom Professional Coat Revitalise conditioner, both 10:1 concentrates.
- Deep cleaning (like Vegan Detox) – iGroom Charcoal + Keratin Shampoo with activated charcoal and keratin, a 16:1 concentrate, or the Chris Christensen Clean Start deep-cleansing shampoo; for bathing at home – the ready-to-use TropiClean Berry & Coconut Deep Cleansing shampoo.
- Vegan formulas (like Forest Energy and Forest Soul) – the Bugalugs Mango & Banana and Bugalugs Tangle Tame 3-in-1 shampoos.
- A calming bath (like Pet Spa Senses) – Groom Professional Tranquil Shampoo for dogs and the ready-to-use Bugalugs Lavender & Chamomile conditioner.
How to compare
With concentrates, the bottle price tells you little. Compare the price per litre of ready solution: the price, divided by the litres in the bottle and by the number of parts of ready solution (N + 1, where N is the dilution ratio). For example, 1 L of a 10:1 concentrate makes 11 L of ready solution, so the price per litre is the bottle price divided by 11. Hydra writes its ratios as 1:4 or 1:10 – one part product to 4 or 10 parts water, i.e. 4:1 and 10:1. That way a 1:10 shampoo and a 1:4 one compare fairly, and the table below shows which works out cheaper for each line. To work out what one bath costs with a given shampoo after dilution, use the bath-cost calculator.
Hydra Collection William Galharde – all-round care with shine
The Hydra Collection William Galharde Shampoo is a super-concentrate at a 1:10 dilution, with a vanilla and coconut scent, suitable for all breeds and coat types in dogs and cats. The matching William Galharde Conditioner is a 1:4 concentrate for hydration and easier brushing.
For the same purpose – all-round care with shine for regular salon use – we recommend the Groom Professional Cherry Sparkle shampoo, a 10:1 concentrate with a cherry scent, and the restorative Groom Professional Coat Revitalise conditioner, also a 10:1 concentrate. Both are made in the UK, and at this dilution ratio they work out cheaper per ready-to-use litre than the equivalent Hydra products.
Hydra Vegan Detox – for deep cleaning
When the coat is oily, dirty or has built-up styling product residue, the Vegan Detox line offers a two-step routine. Purifying Mud with activated charcoal is ready to use straight from the bottle and is applied before the shampoo. Next comes Hydra Vegan Detox Shampoo – a vegan concentrate at a 1:4 dilution, with matcha and ginger, for animals over 8 weeks old, and the Detox conditioner (same dilution) completes the routine.
For deep cleaning we recommend iGroom Clarifying Shampoo – a professional deep-cleaning shampoo with plant-based cleansing agents and aloe vera. It is a concentrate with a recommended dilution of 16:1 (according to the maker), so in the large bottle – iGroom Clarifying Shampoo Pineapple 3.78 L – it works out much cheaper per ready-to-use litre than Hydra Vegan Detox Shampoo. As a finishing step after cleaning, Groom Professional Coat Repair conditioner is a good fit – a 10:1 concentrate that works out cheaper per ready-to-use litre than the Hydra Vegan Detox conditioner.
Hydra Vegan Forest Energy and Forest Soul – vegan formulas
For dogs whose coat mats easily or needs more softness and shine, the Forest Energy (Guaraná & Açaí scent) and Forest Soul (Cupuaçu scent) lines offer biodegradable vegan shampoos at a 10:1 dilution, free of dyes and parabens. The matching conditioners – Forest Energy Conditioner and Forest Soul Conditioner – are 1:4 concentrates. These formulas suit dogs with a dense undercoat, such as the Siberian Husky, where regular de-matting between baths is part of routine care.
For a vegan formula, we recommend the Bugalugs concentrates: Bugalugs Mango & Banana shampoo – a pH-balanced vegan formula used neat or diluted up to 10:1 – and Bugalugs Tangle Tame 3-in-1, a vegan shampoo, conditioner and detangler in one, a 10:1 concentrate made for coats that tangle easily. Diluted 10:1 and in the 500 ml bottle, both work out cheaper per ready-to-use litre than the Hydra vegan shampoos. For salons that prefer a large bottle, Groom Professional Herbal Hydrate shampoo in a 4 L bottle, a 10:1 concentrate with herbal extracts, is also an economical choice.
Hydra Pet Spa Senses – a calming bath
Hydra Pet SPA Senses Bliss Shampoo is a 1:4 concentrate with coconut water and a lipoprotein complex. The conditioners in the range – Care (cotton and almond) and Serenity (apricot and almond) – are ready to use with no dilution, applied after shampoo in both dogs and cats.
For a calming bath with an aromatherapy effect, we recommend the concentrated Groom Professional Tranquil Shampoo (with lavender and tea tree oils – for dogs only), which works out cheaper per ready-to-use litre than Bliss Shampoo. As a ready-to-use conditioner with no dilution – just like Care and Serenity – the Bugalugs Lavender & Chamomile conditioner is a good match, at a cost per litre close to theirs. You can also set a reminder for your pet's next bath in the care-plan feature in your account (My Pets).

Frequently asked questions
Which works out cheaper – Hydra or your concentrates?
For every line in the table, our pick works out cheaper per litre of ready solution – for Bugalugs in the 500 ml bottle, for iGroom Clarifying in the large bottle, and for the ready-to-use conditioners the difference is small. Always compare after dilution, not by the bottle price.
What else works for deep cleaning, like Hydra Vegan Detox?
For an oily or dirty coat, iGroom Clarifying Shampoo works well, followed by Groom Professional Coat Repair as the conditioner. The iGroom shampoo is diluted 16:1 and the conditioner 10:1, so one bottle lasts many baths.
Is the dilution on our concentrates the same as Hydra's?
Each product has its own ratio, stated on the label and in its description – for example 10:1 or 1:4. Check the specific product before diluting, and mix well in a bottle or sponge so it's distributed evenly.
Can I combine a Hydra product with a conditioner from another brand?
Yes – what matters is that the choice matches your dog's coat needs (hydration, deep cleaning or calming), not that both products come from the same line or brand.
