iGroom: which shampoo and conditioner to choose

iGroom: кой шампоан и балсам да изберете

Short answer: iGroom offers shampoos and conditioners for specific needs – Deshedding + Detangling for shedding and tangles, Squalane Care for intensive hydration of long coats, Pro-Keratin Leave-In for leave-in care, Hypoallergenic for sensitive skin, and Banana for softness and a pleasant scent. Choose the range based on your coat's main issue, not at random.

Who iGroom is

iGroom is a range of professional shampoos, conditioners and styling products, each aimed at a specific coat need rather than being a one-size-fits-all product. Most ranges offer a shampoo and conditioner as a set, designed to work together in the same routine – washing, followed by a matching conditioner from the same line.

Why professional groomers choose iGroom

iGroom was created by professionals for professionals: product development is led by Jennifer Lee – a pet stylist and cosmetic chemist who combines grooming techniques with cosmetic chemistry. All iGroom shampoos, conditioners and sprays are made in the USA. Two formulas won the Barkleigh Honor product-of-the-year award – iGroom Squeaky Clean Shampoo in 2019 and the Deshedding + Detangling range in 2020. On its website the brand publishes testimonials from international grooming judges, including members of Groomteam Canada and Groomteam USA.

Many of the shampoos are salon concentrates that you dilute with water: iGroom 50:1 Gentle Clean at 50:1, and many of the other ranges at 16:1. That way one bottle lasts for many baths.

What the ingredient lists say. According to the maker's published ingredient lists, 10 of the 16 iGroom shampoos that have one contain no sulfates, parabens, MIT/MCI, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives or synthetic dyes – among them Argan + Vitamin E, Prebiotic, Tearless Facial and Hypoallergenic. None of the 16 lists a paraben, MIT/MCI or a formaldehyde-releasing preservative; where the preservative is named, it is phenoxyethanol with ethylhexylglycerin. The other six – Squeaky Clean, the two Clarifying, the two 50:1 and True Color Brightening – contain a sulfate cleanser, and True Color also a colourant. Data as of 3 October 2026. You'll find more about each ingredient group in the article what a dog shampoo's ingredient list says.

Shedding and tangles

The Deshedding + Detangling range is aimed at dogs with heavy shedding and a tendency towards matting. iGroom Deshedding + Detangling Shampoo loosens the shed undercoat and reduces new tangles forming, while the matching iGroom Deshedding + Detangling Conditioner continues the effect after washing, refreshing dry coat. The products were recognised with the Barkleigh Honor product-of-the-year award in 2020 – industry recognition for grooming products.

Long coats and dry hair

For dogs with a long, drop coat, iGroom Squalane Care Shampoo nourishes, protects and strengthens the coat, helping against breakage and dry, split ends. The matching iGroom Squalane Care Conditioner is a premium conditioner with pure squalane that hydrates intensively and restores the coat without weighing it down – a useful combination for breeds with a long, drop coat such as the Yorkshire Terrier, whose coat needs regular care against breakage. Between baths, iGroom Pro-Keratin Leave-In Conditioner is a leave-in conditioner with keratin, argan oil and aloe vera, which penetrates the hair structure, nourishes and protects it, adding shine and making it easier to brush – a handy option when there's no time for a full bath.

Sensitive skin

iGroom Hypoallergenic Shampoo is a gentle cleansing formula with no strong fragrances or dyes, enriched with extracts and a nourishing moisturising blend – suitable for dogs and cats with more sensitive skin, for whom harsh cleansing ingredients aren't suitable. If the skin shows persistent redness, flaking or itching, the product can help with comfort, but it doesn't replace a veterinary examination if a skin condition or allergy is suspected.

Hydration and softness

iGroom Banana Shampoo hydrates and softens the coat with banana extract, leaving a pleasant scent and a coating that's easy to brush through – a good choice for long-haired breeds such as the Maltese, where soft hair makes daily maintenance easier and reduces new knots forming. The product comes in two sizes and pairs with the conditioner from the same range for a longer-lasting effect.

A fragrance effect

When the main aim is a pleasant, long-lasting scent after a bath rather than solving a specific coat problem, iGroom Darling Shampoo combines deep cleansing with a soft floral scent. The shampoo is pH-balanced for dogs and cats and can be diluted – check the ratio on the label before use.

Shampoo and conditioner sets

For most ranges, iGroom also offers ready-made sets, in which the shampoo and conditioner from the same line are sold together, in matching or different sizes – from smaller bottles for home use to larger packs, handy for more frequent bathing or more than one animal in the household. Choosing a set is an easy way to make sure the two products genuinely match, rather than combining a conditioner from one range with a shampoo from another.

How to choose

First work out what your coat's main problem is – shedding, dry and breaking lengths, sensitive skin, or simply wanting a pleasant scent – and choose the range devoted to exactly that. With a shampoo-and-conditioner set from the same range, the effect is usually more noticeable and consistent than mixing products from different lines with different purposes. If your pet's coat has more than one need at once – for example shedding and dryness together – choose the range aimed at the more pressing problem, and watch the result before adding a product from a second line.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to use a shampoo and conditioner from the same range?

It's not essential, but it's recommended – the formulas are usually designed to work together, and the effect is more complete than combining products with different purposes from different lines.

Does Pro-Keratin Leave-In replace a regular conditioner?

It can be used on its own between baths for quick leave-in care, or together with a rinse-out conditioner after a bath – it depends on the coat's needs and the time available for the routine.

Does the Hypoallergenic shampoo treat allergies?

No. It's a gentle cleansing formula suitable for more sensitive skin, but it doesn't diagnose or treat allergies. If an allergic reaction is suspected, a veterinary examination is needed.

Are the products suitable for cats too?

Some products, such as the Deshedding + Detangling line, are made for both dogs and cats – check the description of each specific product before use, and if there's more than one need at once, choose the range that matches the more urgent problem, then go back to the regular range once it has settled.
